A SECTION of the M62 in the Bradford district had to be closed yesterday after vegetation in the central reservation caught fire.

Crews from Bradford fire station and Huddersfield were called to the blaze at 7.25pm yesterday, close to Junction 25 for Brighouse.

Firefighters had to close the westbound carriageway of the motorway for around ten minutes to deal with the fire, which was on a small patch of grass and vegetation on the central reservation.

A spokesperson for Bradford fire station said the fire could have been caused by "a possible stray cigarette".

He said: "With it being bone dry, it's possible a stray cigarette set it alight.

"There's not much vegetation there anymore as most of the central reservation has been concreted over, but that part was on fire and we had to close the road."
