THE Bradford Interchange bus and railway station is back open after it was evacuated earlier today after a "suspicious package" was found.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said the force received a call from the station's security team at around 11.15am saying they were evacuating the building due to finding what they believed to be a suspicious package.

A large crowd was gathered at the entrance of the Interchange and an electronic sign said 'Incident in progress, do not enter'.

One person said a tannoy message had gone out asking that a plastic box in the building be collected by whoever had left it.

He said they were then told it was an emergency and everybody was evacuated.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Combined Authority, which manages West Yorkshire’s Metro bus stations said: “We can confirm that Bradford Interchange was evacuated late this morning after a suspicious package was reported.

“The Interchange re-opened just after 1pm once the police advised that it was safe to do so.

“We have robust procedures in place for this type of event and we are pleased to say they ran to plan.

“As part of our ongoing work to ensure the safety of customers, employees and tenants, we will be reviewing today’s exercise as part of a continuous improvement process.”
