AN EVENT highlighting the delights of Caribbean food will be taking place this weekend.

The event, dubbed ‘’Tropical Takeover’, sees home made Caribbean food served instead of the venue’s normal dishes.

The takeover will consist of meat free BBQ on offer for visitors to sample.

Bradford Brewery, on Rawson Road, will be hosting the event.

Katherine Canoville, event organiser and chef, said: “This Saturday’s event is a slightly different flavour in that I’m aiming to show how Caribbean food is accessible to all.

“We’re planning Quinoa and kidney bean burgers, for example, with a Caribbean twist.”

She added: “I love cooking and I love people enjoying my food.”

The first Takeover event took place at the Airedale Public House, New Otley Road last month.

Ms Canoville said: “I was amazed at the many people that even dressed up for the event. Music, including Karaoke, was totally tropical and the whole evening was a raging success.

“All the food went, including take-away. Brilliant and massive thanks to Michael and all at The Airedale. “

The next event will take place at The Assembly, North Parade in early August and The Guezelian on Church Bank. There will also be an event at the Hand & Shuttle Pub.

There will be more events taking place around Bradford, with venues being added to the list.

Ms Canoville said the idea behind the Tropical Takeover was to bring Caribbean menus to Bradford.

She said: “I was getting frustrated by people saying they were going to open Caribbean restaurants but failing to come through.”

There will also be vegan, fish and gluten-free options available.

The function is one of a regular series of Tropical Takeover events happening throughout Bradford over the course of the year with food and music.

The events are organised by Bradford-based events company Uneeq.

Uneeq Events is a community interest company organising cultural events throughout Bradford and West Yorkshire. Previous events include art galleries and a Black History Bus Tour.

The Takeover will take place from 5pm till late at Bradford Brewery, Rawson Road.
