A COMMUNITY playground in Eccleshill is getting a spring clean this weekend thanks to a team of 20 staff from a local Marks & Spencer.

The staff from M&S in Pudsey are volunteering at the Big Swing Adventure Playground to reinvigorate the popular activity centre.

The donation of time on Sunday, June 24, is part of a nationwide campaign to commit more than 40,000 hours of volunteering by staff from the retail giant.

At the Big Swing, teams of five volunteers will be working with playworkers from the playground making structures suitable for play, clearing the existing playground space to give it a new lease of life, and upgrading the playground’s sensory garden for children with disabilities.

Activities at the Big Swing include the swing itself, and the chance to learn how to construct dens and make campfires.

Brian Collin, store manager at M&S Pudsey, said: “We’re really excited to be coming together to lend a hand to the Big Swing.

“Our team were humbled by the work of the Big Swing as many of our colleagues have children themselves and understand the importance of play at all ages.

“The charity offers a much-needed free outlet for children who might not otherwise have opportunities for skills building or self-led play in a safe environment.”
