A MAN was seriously injured following a crash in Queensbury.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to Priestley Hill, at the junction with Windy Bank Lane, just after 8am on Saturday.

Two vehicles, a silver Ford and a white Mercedes Sprinter van, were involved and a man in his 20s was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The road was closed for several hours while the scene was cleared.

One resident, who lives opposite the scene of the crash, said he had heard a "little skid and a massive bang" just after 8am. He said some of the glass from the van had hit the window of his house.

The man said a woman, who he believed was a paramedic technician, was on her way to work and was the first on the scene to offer assistance.

Residents described the road as "dangerous".

Janet Williams, 68, who lives nearby, said: "We just heard the bang and saw the accident.

"The emergency services were really quick, there was lots of them."

She said she would like to see cameras or some kind of traffic calming measures on the road.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the roof of the Ford had to be removed so the driver could be freed.

He was put on a spinal board and was taken to the Leeds General Infirmary by ambulance.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information is asked to contact the police via 101 quoting log number *490 of 16 June.

Two other crashes were also reported in Queensbury on the same day, one at Sandbeds and another at Ford Hill.
