IT may only be early summer, but members of Bosom Friends Bradford have had Christmas on their minds as they shot the final picture for their fundraising 2019 calendar.

The tasteful creation, showing a hint of flesh to suggest a lack of clothing, will raise money for the group which supports women who have been or are being treated for breast cancer

The group recently got together at the New Inn, in Thornton Road, where they set up a Christmas scene, complete with Christmas tree and baubles, and shot the December picture, courtesy of photographer Gemma Doyle who has done all the pictures free of charge.

“We hope it is popular,” Said Bradford Bosom Friends member Pauline Roberts who first suggested creating a calendar and said there was going to be an initial run of 500 copies.

“Gemma has done some really wonderful pictures. Not wanting to give too much away we can say we have a Robbie Burns theme for January with the Scottish flag and ladies wearing plaid. There are shamrocks for St Patrick’s Day on the March page and for August we are highlighting Yorkshire Day with ladies wearing waistcoats and flat caps.”

There is also a Halloween themed photo for October with pumpkins strategically placed to preserve the ladies’ modesty.

“We will be launching our calendar at our annual fashion show which is at Bradford Grammar School, in Keighley Road, Bradford, on Tuesday, October 23," said Mrs Roberts.

“The fashion show, our 26th, is a huge fundraiser and we are hoping to sell a lot on the night.”

Mrs Roberts added: “There are around 25 of us involved and everyone has been fantastic.

“We have had a wonderful time putting it together and coming up with ideas.”

Mrs Roberts, 70, has been a member of the club for two years after being diagnosed with breast cancer and undergoing surgery and chemotherapy and said she has met some “amazing” people.

She is now on the road to recovery and along with others, helps new members of the group.

The next event is a coffee morning which is being held in the veteran hut in Lady Hill Park, Allerton, on Saturday, June 30, from 10am.

There will be a cake stall as well as face painting and a raffle.

Everyone is welcome to go along and support the group which raises money to provide weekends away for the ladies.

This time the coffee morning is also raising money for Martin House children’s hospice and the Forget Me Not charity.

Details of the fashion show and how to purchase the calender will be on the bosom friends’ calender nearer the launch date.
