CONCERNS have been raised that a new housing development could be at risk of “ball strike” from a neighbouring cricket pitch.

Yorkshire Homes Ltd has submitted -plans to build four houses at Nethermoor Works, Otley Road, Guiseley.

The site is currently used by Wrights Recycling Machinery, but if the plans are approved, they would vacate the site and the existing buildings would be demolished to make way for the houses.

The site backs on to the grounds of Guiseley Cricket Club, and Sport England has objected to the plans.

The public sports body said: “Cricket balls are likely to leave the playing field and land on the application site when matches are being played. The proposed development would increase the potential liability to the Cricket Club for damage to property and personal injury.”

Sport England said it would maintain its objection until the applicants carry out a "ball strike risk assessment."

A decision on the application is expected over the summer.
