A SMALL crowd gathered in Centenary Square this afternoon to mark one year to the day since the bombing of the Manchester Arena with prayers and a minute's silence.

Leading the short service, Dean of Bradford, the Very Reverend Jerry Lepine said it was important to stand in solidarity with the people of Manchester.

"He said: "Such moments as this have become part of our national landscape in recent years and it is important that we understand that purpose.

"In some sense these moments create energy. As the bishop at the royal wedding on Saturday said when he quoted Dr Martin Luther King by saying 'we have to discover the power of love',"

Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Zafar Ali said: "We come here to remember the tragic events. On that day so many young people and their families had gathered in high spirits to enjoy a pop concert. That evening was to end in horror and carnage."

Cllr Ali said the event saw the very worst and very best of human behaviour come together.

Also attending the event was the deputy lord lieutenant of West Yorkshire, David Pearson, MP Imran Hussain, members of Bradford Council, the police, ambulance service, school children and members of the public.
