PLANS to open a restaurant in an industrial area have been refused by Bradford Council.
Planning officers said the proposals to open a 662 square metre restaurant in part of the Beehive Works on Edderthorpe Street, off Leeds Road, would harm the area’s “primary function as a predominantly industrial area.”
The plans were submitted by Roger Lee Planning and would have seen the restaurant open from 5.30pm until midnight.
Refusing the plans, officers pointed out that the building fell within an employment zone for industrial and commercial businesses. They said while small cafes or sandwich shops are acceptable in such areas, as they “serve the needs of the local workforce,” a restaurant was not. They said: “It would adversely affect the attraction of the area for its intended purpose and weaken its primary function as a predominantly industrial and commercial area.”
