THE annual civic service of thanksgiving for the year in office of the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Abid Hussain, will be held at Bradford Cathedral tomorrow.

The service, which will begin at 11.30am, will be conducted by The Bishop of Bradford, The Right Reverend Dr Toby Howarth and the Dean of Bradford, The Very Reverend Jerry Lepine.

The sermon will be delivered by The Archdeacon of Bradford, The Venerable Dr Andy Jolley.

There will be readings from the Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Doreen Lee, and Councillor Dale Smith, a former Lord Mayor.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Abid Hussain, said: "I am delighted we are able to come together in harmony and peace to give thanks and to celebrate my civic year.

"I pledge to continue to work for the good of our community.”

Prayers for the Bradford District, including prayers written especially for this occasion, will be read by the Believing in Bradford group. Believing in Bradford is an all-faiths group formed in 2016 by the Bishop of Bradford and Lord Mayor of Bradford to bring together people across Bradford.

The Vice Lord Lieutenant Tim Hare will be in attendance, as well as current and former councillors and invited guests. There will also be performances from the Cathedral Choir.

The Lord Mayor’s mace and sword will be placed upon the altar at the start of the service and will remain throughout.

A collection will be made for the Lord Mayor's Appeal charities, the Down Syndrome Training and Support Service and the Wishing Well appeal.

All are welcome to attend the service.
