CHARLIE Wyke is not bothered about the rumour mill going into overdrive once again.

City’s 16-goal top scorer can expect to be the focus of plenty of transfer speculation after the season finishes tomorrow.

Wyke was the target of almost daily reports during the January transfer window.

The Telegraph & Argus was told that seven Championship clubs were watching him at the time.

But City had made it clear from the start that he would not be for sale – and no offers came in.

Going into the final year of his contract, that interest in the big striker is set to be rekindled over the summer.

But until City have an actual bid to weigh up, Wyke is not going to let his head be turned.

He said: “I don’t really follow all the rumours. You see a lot of things on Twitter and 85 per cent of it’s not true.

“You can’t really get distracted by that. The only person I listen to is my agent and I haven’t really heard anything at all.

“It’s easy to shut off. I know there were stories of Preston and Middlesbrough and that in January but I didn’t hear a thing.

“My agent told me not to worry or be put off and just to concentrate on seeing how many goals I can score for Bradford.

“I think I’ve progressed since I stepped up to League One. I’ve become a better player.

“It’s nice to have a bit of interest – even if it’s not true! It’s nice to see your name getting passed around a bit.

“But I’m obviously a Bradford City player, contracted to Bradford, so I can’t get distracted by anything else.”

Wyke will maintain an interest in the play-offs by following his beloved Boro in their bid to get back to the Premier League. He hopes to be at Wembley cheering them on in the Championship final.

But he is still gutted that City’s season will not be going any further than the closing league game at Scunthorpe.

He added: “It’s really disappointing the way it’s finished.

“If we’d just picked up a few points during the bad run, we’d be there or thereabouts in the play-offs. It’s hard to be nowhere near them.

“You can’t dwell on it but you’ll obviously look back at certain games and wonder how we didn’t win them or didn’t score then.

“But I think you can learn from those difficult situations and it puts you in good stead for the future.

“I think my own game has come on in my first full season in League One.

“It’s been frustrating at times with red cards and injuries.

“But I’ve scored a few goals and made a few assists, although every striker will tell you they want more.

“There will be changes round the club over the summer. But we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”
