PEOPLE are being reminded they do not need to provide their ID or polling card to vote today.
The issue reared its head on social media when Twitter user Chrys Harris said she was refused a ballot at the Kirkgate Centre polling station in Shipley because she did not have her polling card or ID.
However, she did provide her name and address.
ESSENTIAL ELECTION INFORMATION
In a tweet to Bradford Council she wrote: "They dithered about it until I refused to leave without voting. This is unacceptable."
Kersten England, Returning Officer and Bradford Council's Chief Executive, replied: "You are right there is no requirement to provide your polling card or ID.
"Please accept our apologies and please do go and vote. The polling station inspector is visiting the polling station and a reminder communication has been sent to all polling station staff."
And a representative from Bradford Council also tweeted to apologise for the inconvenience.
The tweet said: "There is no requirement for voters to provide ID to cast a vote – it is not part of the process. All staff have been notified, so this should not happen again."
