PLANS to turn a butcher's shop into a takeaway have been refused by Bradford Council because of their proximity to schools and children's facilities.
An application submitted by T Mehmood to convert Aahil Halal Meat on Grade II listed 532 Great Horton Road to a hot food takeaway has this week been blocked by planning officers.
In 2014 the Council implemented a Hot Food Takeaway policy that would see any plan for a takeaway outside of a city, town or village centre and within 400 metres of a school, refused.
Planning officers said this takeaway would be a short distance from the Khidmat Centre, Windmill Health and Strength Club, Jamia Saddiqia Education Centre, St Oswalds Church of England Primary Academy, Farnham Primary School and McMillan Children Centre, as well as recreation grounds and park boundaries at Horton Park and Cecil Avenue.
They said although there were other takeaways nearby, these were opened before the Council adopted its policy.
