FLOOD warnings on the River Aire are still in force following heavy rain today and the impact of melting snow which fell yesterday.

The Environment Agency issued the flood alert just after 8.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday for the River Aire Upper and middle catchments and that alert continues today.

The agency said: “Following (Monday's) snow and rainfall, river levels are currently rising.

The Environment Agency's website states: "River levels in the River Aire between Bingley and Castleford have peaked and are forecast to fall gradually during the rest of today.

"River levels on the Upper Aire peaked at around 1am today and are now falling. However, as Skipton and Cononley washlands are operational, this alert remains in force.

"We are closely monitoring the situation.

"The Upper Aire catchment is saturated so low lying land, roads and fields may still be affected.

"Please remain safe and be aware of your surroundings."
