ONE of Bradford’s biggest disability groups has been celebrating World Down Syndrome Day today.
The Down Syndrome Training and Support Service, based in Bingley, marked the day with an event at Cedar Court Hotel on Saturday to mark the day, which brought 45 families together for an evening of fun, and also held activities at the service’s base this morning.
Wendy Rhodes, events coordinator at the service, said yesterday helped to raise awareness around the condition.
She said: “They are just children, there are some challenges but there are with all children.
“Children with Down Syndrome are just like any other children, they love you just the same and we love them too.”
Many other services and people around the district have marked World Down Syndrome Day by wearing odd socks.
The group has also announced three of its four submissions to be presented to the World Down Syndrome Congress being held in Glasgow in July have been accepted.
The submissions are a workshop for adults on appropriate greetings, an exercise class for adults, and dance21, who have been asked to perform on stage in front of people from all over the world.
The group is also looking to raise £8,000 to fund the young adults and parents and carers for the three day event. To donate, visit mydonate.bt.com/events/glasgowwdsd/459465
