POETIC pupils of a Bradford school had their creative writing skills recognised by the Lord Mayor.
Councillor Abid Hussain visited pupils at Barkerend Academy to present awards to the winners of a World Book Day inspired poetry competition.
The children across school, from Reception to Year 6, completed a piece of writing based on Where’s Wally.
There were 12 children selected from each key stage for their work, with each child presented with a certificate and a ‘Where’s Wally’ book by the Mayor. From these children, four winners were selected as being overall winners from each key stage, and received a medal. Teacher Robana Yousef said: “The event was a resounding success as children were talking about the event during the day-playtime, lunchtime and at home time. Children were clearly proud of their achievements and enjoyed listening to the Mayor’s message highlighting the importance of education and working hard.”
