FIREFIGHTERS said closing bedroom doors had helped stop a house from being badly damaged after a fire broke out in a bedroom this afternoon.

Crews from Bradford, Odsal and Illingworth attended the fire in Highlands Grove, near Horton Bank Top, Bradford, at 2.50pm.

They used six breathing apparatus but found no one inside after initially being told there were people inside.

A spokesman said the family of six were not injured and that a fire investigation officer suspected an electrical appliance in the bedroom caused the blaze.

"That bedroom door was in fact open, but other doors were closed and that helped contain the fire to the one room. It shows how important keeping doors closed is to keep fires under control.

"The house was smoke damaged and is not habitable at the moment. However, it was good to know there were working smoke alarms too."
