PARENTS and children joined together at a Bradford school to celebrate National Storytelling Week.
To mark the occasion, parents at St Matthew’s CE Primary School, West Bowling, were invited to join each year group to share or listen to a story in their child’s class.
And pupils were also encouraged to extend their love of reading with a book swap.
Throughout the week, children were asked to bring a book from home in exchange for a token.
The books were then collected and displayed in school and at the end of the week, pupils with a token could pick a new book to take home from the ones on display.
The National Storytelling Week activities are part of the school’s programme of events to encourage all pupils at the school to develop a love of books and improve standards in reading and writing.
The school has also developed its library, giving parents and carers the opportunity to choose reading books with their children.
Author days have also been held and ‘reading corners’ have been designed.
