MORE than 100 people from different communities in Bradford united for a poignant service to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
Representatives of Bradford’s Jewish, Central and Eastern European communities, Bosnian Srebrenica and modern day victims lit candles at the service, held today in City Hall.
They were joined by district dignitaries including Bradford West MP Naz Shah and Councillors Alex Ross-Shaw and Simon Cooke.
Speakers included the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Cllr Abid Hussain; the Bishop of Bradford, The Right Reverend, Dr Toby Howarth and Henneke Dye, who was ten when she hid from Nazis who raided her uncle’s home.
A group of ten students from Beckfoot Upper Heaton also spoke at the event.
Holocaust Memorial Day is held around the world each January and this year’s theme is the Power of Words, for good or evil.
The Lord Mayor of Bradford said: “We are united by humanity. It is so important that we remember the victims of the Holocaust.”
