A RUGBY club chairman says he is "disgusted" after a new fence was vandalised.

The fencing, which cost £2,500, has been up around the Northfield Road playing fields, Wibsey, for less than a week, but has been cut open.

It was put up as part of Wibsey Rugby Club's plans to transform the site through the Community Asset Transfer Programme.

The policy allows the transfer of management and/or ownership of public land and buildings from its owner, usually a local authority, to a community organisation.

The club, working with Bradford Council and other partners, has plans to take on the site and transform it for the benefit of players in the village and surrounding area.

Chairman Steve Brooke said: "I'm absolutely disgusted. We have fenced of the snicket which is near the school and down the front of Northfield. We've not put any gates up yet, so the gates are still open.

"It's not even been up for a week. I'm absolutely livid. You spend money trying to upgrade the site and then that's what happens."

Last year, a crowdfunding appeal was set up for the club when vandals damaged goalposts beyond repair.

Mr Brooke encouraged anyone who sees anything to let the club know.
