A LOCAL security business has come to the aid of a volunteer-run rugby club which suffered a break-in last week.

More than £150 of damage was caused to a window at Dudley Hill RLFC on Thursday evening, January 11, when thieves broke in through a window and made off with the till and a bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey.

More damage was caused to stock and a dishwasher.

The till had no cash in it and was dumped, with a damaged drawer, at the far side of the field.

An appeal was started on JustGiving to raise money for a shutter to stop further break-ins.

But local businessman Howard Rae has since stepped up and fitted metal shutters free of charge.

Club secretary Emilie Deacon said: "Howard, who runs HR Security, saw our appeal on Facebook and has come and put metal shutters on two windows for free. We were thrilled because they have made our club safe.

"And now we have had a till donated by Rachel Smith, of Baby Beau, at Gomersall.

"We have a fundraising page which is still going and we will put what money we raise through that towards an alarm, a dishwasher and replaced stock that was damaged.

"If we can raise enough we will look at getting security cameras too. ," she said.

Volunteer Jenni Styles started a fundraising page aiming to raise £2,000 towards the cost of fitting the security and the site has already raised more than £600, including a donation from former player John Bateman who now plays for Wigan.
