BINGLEY brought the Christmas story to life once again with its annual live nativity play.

The procession, which saw Mary and Joseph make their way through the town, began at the bandstand in Myrtle Park, which represented Nazareth.

Producer Yvonne Jones said there was quite a good turn out to watch the event, despite the weather.

She said: "This year we did have sheep, which attracted quite a lot of attention.

"There were four little girls from a local school who, as small angels, accompanied the angel Gabriel to surprise the shepherds, while a choir of local singers sang Gloria in Excelsis Deo.

"The choir also encouraged the audience to sing along with several other carols during the performance.

"All the people who took part and helped in so many other ways, were members of local churches or the local community, which made it a truly Bingley community event."

She said the crowd were delighted when, after the Three Kings presented their gifts to the baby Jesus in the stable, Mary lifted up a real baby for them to see.

The nativity finished at Church House, on Old Main Street, where tea, coffee and cake was served and people were encouraged to visit All Saints Church to see the Christmas Tree Festival.
