UP to 100 young people who have left the care service in Bradford will receive a special Christmas dinner next week thanks to the generosity of residents, charities and businesses from across the district.

The event will be held at the Midland Hotel on Tuesday, supported by donations from the Bradford Rotary Club and a number of residents, including one former care leaver who is now aged 86.

The Leaving Care Service supports young people aged between 16 and 25 as they become more independent and start to move out of the care system.

As well as a Christmas buffet, each of the young guests will also receive a present donated by staff from Bradford Council in their role as corporate parents.

Councillor Val Slater, Bradford Council’s executive member for health and wellbeing, said: “Christmas, like all holiday times, can be a particularly significant time for children in care and care leavers.

“It is great that both our staff, the local community and businesses have all come together to support our young people and give them something special at Christmas.”
