POLICE have seized over 1,000 cannabis plants after discovering a major growing operation in Bradford.

Officers discovered the cannabis factory in an industrial building on Summerville Road, just yards from the Grange Interlink Community Centre.

The discovery was made last night, and after spending much of today clearing out the building, police have estimated the crop as being 1,039 plants.

One man in currently in custody.

PCSO Sarah Barberini Tweeted a photo of her up to her shoulders in the plants while she was in the process of clearing the building.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "We found 1,039 plants across seven rooms, worth thousands of pounds were recovered and will now be destroyed.

"One male is in custody and the Crown Prosecution Service are being consulted.

"We would like to take this opportunity to welcome PCSO Barbarini to the Outer City NPT (pictured), having transferred from Wakefield this week. Quite the induction."

While officers were removing the plants, members of the local community dropped off a crate of Coke Cola for them.

Bradford Police Chief Superintendent Scott Bisset Tweeted: "You will find the vast majority of Bradfordians really appreciate what we do. It’s these small acts of kindness that make the biggest difference and remind us all what we do matters."
