AMENDED plans for a former pub and working men’s club in Wibsey have been passed by planners, after changes addressed residents’ concerns.

Former Bradford City Football Club chairman Mark Lawn and business partner Kelly Shaw initially submitted an application to merge the Market Tavern and Wibsey Sports and Social Club into a new bar called The Garden Shed.

The opening hours would have been until 3am seven days a week, leading to fears over noise and anti-social behaviour.

In response, the team behind the scheme agreed to make changes to their proposals.

Earlier today the amended plans went before Bradford Council’s area planning panel for Bradford, and were approved.

Members were told that the current plans are to keep both premises separate and within their existing use classes. In addition the hours opening would remain the same as the current licence - the pub closing at midnight and the sports and social club side at 2am.

Mr Lawn told the Telegraph & Argus that once renovated the former pub would become the Garden Shed Real Ale and Gin Bar and the working men’s club would be known as the Garden Shed Club, serving food, such as burgers and wood-fired pizzas.

He said: “With the pub we are going to concentrate on real ale from the Bradford area, as well as brewing our own Garden Shed ales.

“The Club will have a function room and will concentrate on serving fresh food.”

He added that he hoped to bring something “upmarket” to the area.

Now planning permission for the external alterations, such as a new glass entrance to the pub, and moving the existing entrance to the working men’s club, has been approved, the renovation work can begin in earnest.

Mr Lawn added that he hoped to open the Garden Shed bar and club in the New Year.
