TRIBUTES have been paid to a 22-year-old motorbike rider who was killed in a head-on crash in Baildon.

The woman, named locally as Liz Swinhoe-Phelan, was riding a white Triumph Speed Triple motorbike at Hollins Hill towards Guiseley when the collision occurred with a white Audi A3 travelling in the opposite direction.

Emergency services attended, including fire crews from Shipley and Rawdon, but she was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash which took place at about 6.10pm on Monday.

The Audi driver, a woman aged 49, has been spoken to by officers, said a West Yorkshire Police spokesman.

Ms Swinhoe-Phelan was employed as a logistics co-ordinator at Direct Distribution Services, a motorcycle parts firm based in Tong Park, Baildon.

The company where she had worked since June this year paid tribute to her on its Facebook page saying: “We are all deeply saddened by the tragic and unexpected loss of our wonderful friend and colleague, Liz, doing what she loved the most, riding her motorbike.

“Liz was a kind young woman who was always full of life, laughter and fun, and always willing to lend a hand and give advice to her wide circle of biker friends.

“We will miss her terribly. Our love and prayers are with her family and friends at this very sad time.”

“Ride high in the sky x.”

On her Facebook page, Miss Swinhoe-Phelan, who lived in Leeds but was originally from Buckingham, posted pictures of herself enjoying track days on her Triumph.

One friend Mark Pearson wrote: “Liz was a great person, one of life’s good guys.

"Everyone who knew her is devastated. So sad, she was such a lovely person.”

An online fundraising page has been set up to support her family at gofundme.com/collecting-for-liz-swinhoephelan.

Police have urged anyone who witnessed the collision, or the movements of either vehicle prior to it, to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101, quoting log 1510 of October 2.

You can leave your own tribute in our online book of condolence using the tool below. Please note that messages will be moderated by our staff before publication.
