WORK has commenced on a sinkhole which appeared in a street in Baildon earlier this week.
An area of pavement on a pedestrian crossing in Browgate (pictured) gave way on Monday causing a large cavity underground.
Councillor Mike Pollard (Con, Baildon) said he was pleased to see work commence quickly, though was concerned about how long the car park was going to be closed and how it may affect the end of the month farmers’’ market.
“I have spoken to the senior drainage engineer and it has been established the problem is near a culvert which carries Barnsley Beck.
“Work to repair it has taken over most of the car park but it seems at the moment that the main road will not be closed.
“As far as how long it will taketo repair, no one can give me that answer yet.”
