A STEAMPUNK fair featuring a Bradford rock singer, a gin festival and superheroes are some of the highlights of an action-packed weekend.

Justin Sullivan, singer with New Model Army, will be at the free Gothic and Steampunk Fair held tomorrow at the Brew Haus bar and Stein Bierkeller, off Great Horton Road, between noon and 5pm.

Mr Sullivan and Joolz Denby, who designs for and performs with the band, will receive a donation of £900 on behalf of the Sophie Lancaster Foundation at 2.30pm.

They are both supporters of the foundation, which raises awareness of hate crime against people from alternative sub-cultures.

Sophie Lancaster died in 2007 after she and her boyfriend were attacked for being goths.

Mr Sullivan said: “We’re looking forward to this most intriguing and interesting event.”

The event will feature 23 stalls, a book-signing at 3pm by Bradford author AA Dhand, open mic poetry from 12.30pm to 1.30pm and tea duelling, involving a mug of tea and dunking biscuits.

Meanwhile, Captain America and Spider-Man will be at a Keighley for a fundraising event at Toyland in Cavendish Street, from 10am to 4pm tomorrow, in aid of the Superheroes for Kids charity. Proceeds will help buy toys for children’s wards at hospitals including Airedale General.

Fall Fest will feature a day of street markets, children’s activities and a beer and gin festival from 11am tomorrow at Glusburn Arts Centre car park, Colne Road, Keighley.

And visitors can enjoy a tipple at the Big Time Gin Festival in Victoria Hall, Victoria Road, Saltaire, today and tomorrow.

It will also feature a swing band, cocktail bar and around 100 brands of premium gin and vodka. It starts tonight between 6.30pm and 11pm and continues tomorrow, with two sessions, from 12.30pm to 5pm and 6.30pm to 11pm. Stoke & Newcastle Ramblers, based in Stoke-on-Trent, will hold five walks around Ilkley from tomorrow until Monday, September 25. Go to stokeandnewcastleramblers.org.uk for more information.

And in Birstall, fundraisers will be covered in colour for a worthy cause when Kirkwood Hospice hosts its annual colour rush at Oakwell Hall Country Park, Nutter Lane, from 9.30am until 3pm on Sunday. For more information, go to kirkwoodhospice.co.uk.
