HOUSEHOLDERS having too many vehicles was the cause of parking problems in a Bradford street and issuing residents' only parking permits would not alleviate the situation, a committee decided.

Members of the Bradford East Area Committee went along with recommendations to refuse requests for residents' parking permits in Gladstone Street, in Bradford Moor, and in Rowan Avenue, in Thornbury.

Highways officer for Bradford Council, Andrew Smith, said: "The problems in Gladstone Street, which is a very long yet typical residential street of terraced houses, appear to be with people from neighbouring streets parking their cars there.

"There is provision for one parking space outside each home but the majority of homes have more than one car and people are having to park where they can.

"Issuing residents' only parking permits would not help in this matter as this would merely transfer any problem parking from one street to another."

He added that giving parking permits to neighbouring streets would not solve the problem because residents would still be able to park anywhere within the zone.
