THE stalled re-development of a derelict Victorian city centre building could go ahead if new plans are approved.

Last year West Yorkshire Properties were granted planning permission to convert 34-36 Canal Road (pictured) into 31 one bed flats.

Now the group has submitted altered plans, that will see an extra two flats built and some two-bed apartments making up the re-development.

The application said there were “insurmountable issues” with the original plans, including “insufficient apartment numbers to justify construction cost.” It adds: “The addition of two apartments and the two-bedroom apartments would give that extra income which would ensure this project is fully viable.

"The changes in numbers ensures this building is viable under developments profits and ensures this property will be developed as the process is nearly ready for a start on site which an approval to this application would allow.”

The building is currently boarded up, with vegetation growing out of some windows.
