FIVE young apprentices from across Bradford have been hired by the district’s biggest social housing provider Incommunities.

The five men, aged between 18 and 25, are the latest trainees to start their careers in construction with the group.

Dominic Maloney, Daniel Holroyd and Jordan Stephenson have been recruited as apprentice electricians, while Thomas Forde and Jonathan Cumberworth will receive training in gas plumbing.

They will be mentored by experienced trade professionals from Incommunities’ building services team, and will attend college one day a week studying towards NVQ qualifications in their particular trade area.

Daniel Holroyd, 24, is an Incommunities tenant in Shipley, and previously worked as a cleaner in the group’s estate services sector.

He said he was inspired to apply for an apprenticeship after attending a free construction taster course run by Incommunities two years ago.

“I’ve been interested in training to become an electrician and doing the taster course gave me the confidence to go for this apprenticeship,” he added.

Thomas Forde, 18, from Riddlesden, applied to the programme while finishing his A-Levels.

He said: “I was looking for a hands-on profession where I could earn and learn a skill at the same time.

“I see this as an opportunity to build an exciting career.”

Jordan Stephenson, 24, from Keighley, previously worked as a stonemason before becoming an apprentice.

He added: “I want to work for an organisation that is committed to training me and Incommunities looks like a great company to work for.”

Jonathan Cumberworth and Dominic Maloney are both 25, and come from Queensbury and Bingley, respectively.

Geraldine Howley, chief executive of Incommunities, said: “We are delighted to welcome our latest group of new apprentices.

“Apprenticeships are at the heart of our business and each year the recruitment process gets tougher as we look to bring in more talented young people.

“These recruits will benefit from some of the best vocational training available anywhere.

“I wish our five new starters all the best as they take their first steps towards exciting new careers.”
