A NEW takeaway would “reduce the attractiveness” of a historic Bradford street - according to planning officers.
Bradford Council has refused planning permission for an empty shop on Ivegate to be converted into a takeaway. The application, submitted by Amar Hussain for Unit 1 at 33 Ivegate, says the business will create 10 full time and five part time jobs.
The unit is a short distance from one of the entrances to the Sunbridgewells development.
But the takeaway plans were refused by planning officers, who said: “The introduction of a further non-retail frontage would reduce the attractiveness of Ivegate as a shopping street.
"What is notable within the locality, is that a number of units have already been removed from a retail use.
"With the recent opening of the Sunbridge Wells development and the Broadway, it is hoped that these will act as a stimulus to retail development within this centre ensuring its continued vitality and viability.”
Their report said the only benefit would be the new jobs, but adds: “The 10 full-time and five part-time positions would appear optimistic for the scale of the proposed use.”
