AUSSIE addition Damian Sironen gets put on the spot with the Telegraph & Argus' Bulls Q&A:

ON JOINING THE BULLS...

“When I was in Papua New Guinea two weeks ago I got a phone call from Russ MacFarlane (Bulls operations manager), who told me that there was an opportunity here and they were interested in getting me over. It all happened pretty quickly from there.

“I’d always wanted to come over after having a couple of good years in the reserve grade comp in Australia, so it was a pretty easy decision – but I had to run it past the missus first and obviously she had a fair say in it!

“It was a pretty simple call though, it was too good an opportunity to not come over.

“It’s a new set of challenges for me football-wise and it’s an opportunity to meet new friends and mates that you make through footie as well.

ON THE BULLS FANS...

“I know obviously that the club has a very rich and proud history, and it’s an attraction to come to a club that’s got such a rich history in the game and a massive fan base. That’s great for me.

“The fans are a big thing for any club and can be the difference sometimes. Having fans who can come in and lift the team can be massive, and I’m really looking forward to meeting some of the fans and playing in front of them.

ON STAYING BEYOND THIS SEASON...

“Whether I would stay on next season is still a decision I’ve got to make depending on how much I enjoy my time over here.

"I’m getting married in November so my partner is probably going to have a fair bit to say on that – whether she wants to come over or not – but if I enjoy myself in the next couple of months I’d definitely look at wanting to extend.

ON HIMSELF – AS A PLAYER AND LEADER...

“I like to ball play a bit and don’t see myself as a traditional front rower, and I like to get through a lot of work so that’s something I’m wanting to bring to the team. I just want to bring some consistent performances.

“Talking to Geoff, I’m probably one of the older heads here because it’s a pretty young squad. So if I can bring a bit of experience in the middle as well then that’s great.

“I was the skipper at Tweed Heads and they were in a very similar situation with a very young side and a lot of guys who hadn’t played much footie there. So that was a role I took on this year there and I can definitely look to fulfil the same role here.

ON WORKING UNDER GEOFF TOOVEY...

“Geoff being in charge over here was a big tick for me coming over – just the opportunity to learn from a guy with that level of experience. He has coached in the NRL for years and years, and has got a wealth of knowledge that I’m hoping rubs off on me while I’m here.

“It’s great having him here, but at the end of the day a coach can only do so much. Beyond that it’s going to have to come from the playing group. But, yeah, if you’ve got someone like Geoff pushing us along in the right direction then that could make the difference to us getting across the line.

ON HIS NEW TEAM-MATES...

“I don’t know too much about my new team-mates just yet – I knew Dane Chisholm quite well but he’s obviously had the knee issue, so I’m coming in pretty fresh.

“I’m sure, as with most football teams, they’re going to be a good crew to be around and very accepting and welcoming, so I’m looking forward to getting to meet all the boys."
