DETAILS have emerged of a further bid to bring an end to a planning dispute over a large extension built at a hotel and restaurant.

Just over a month ago a revised scheme for Casa Hotel and Restaurant in Elland Road, Brighouse, was rejected by committee members despite planners recommending the downsized scheme be approved.

The Telegraph & Argus reported last week that further amendments had been submitted to Calderdale Council in a bid to reach an agreement over the long-running planning row.

A spokesman for Casa has now confirmed details of the latest changes, which still include a proposal to demolish part of the original building and change the colour of the remaining building from white to cream and brown.

He said that the specific concerns of the Council’s planning committee about harm to the openness had been addressed by:

removing a proposed outdoor seating area and replacing it with landscaping; and

introducing a “green” wall of planting to the main hotel building, helping it blend in with the landscaped area and reduce the impact.

The spokesman added that the revised plans based on these changes had been submitted and they were confident they will be recommended for approval by the planners at the next available planning committee.

“Additionally they are working with the Council to further demonstrate the economic benefits of the development,” he added.

The company which runs Casa lost a planning appeal in 2015 over a large extension built without the correct planning permission.

Castelite Ltd was initially told it had nine months to demolish the three-storey addition.

But a subsequent High Court appeal last year quashed that decision and a fresh ruling from the planning inspectorate is yet to be made.

In a design and access statement submitted in the application with the earlier plans, the applicant stated that the new scheme would reorganise the premises by demolishing some of the older parts of the building, and move those uses into the recently-built extension.
