ANIMATED blockbusters will sizzle up the summer as part of this year’s Bradford Family Film Festival.

The festival’s full programme of events, which will take place between August 1 and 31, has been announced.

Events throughout the festival, run by Bradford UNESCO City of Film, will be at venues across the district including the Big Screen in City Park, IMAX Bradford Picturehouse, Cliffe Castle Museum in Keighley and Artworks Creative Communities at Delius Arts and Culture. Workshops and activities will be held at some of the venues.

The Big Screen at City Park will screen animated movies every Wednesday during August. Entrance is free and all will start at 11am.

These begin with the BFG on August 2, followed by Moana, starring the voice of wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson seven days later.

The screenings continue with Sing on August 16, while Secret Life of Pets will be shown seven days later. The screenings will finish with Beauty and The Beast, starring Emma Watson, on August 30.

Delius Arts and Cultural Centre will be turned into an impromptu cinema for WALL-E on Saturday, August 12, between 4pm and 7pm. And animated movie Inside Out will be shown on Wednesday, August 20, from 5.30pm at Clayton Village Hall.

Two 3D films will also wow audiences during the festival at the IMAX Picturehouse.

Space Station, narrated by Hollywood star Tom Cruise, will be shown on Tuesday, August 8, from 11am.

The documentary Born to be Wild, narrated by Morgan Freeman, will be held at the same venue on Tuesday, August 15, from 11am.

David Wilson, Bradford UNESCO City of Film’s director, said: “The festival really has something for all generations to enjoy and with all screenings and events either free or subsidised, it’s a perfect day out for families.

“We’re delighted to see Artworks Creative Communities working with us this year with their focus on the environment as the central theme for their activities and the IMAX, Picturehouse at National Science and Media Museum are bringing two fascinating documentary features in 3D to our audiences.

“Combined with our family favourites on the Big Screen throughout August there really is something for everyone.”
