A BRADFORD City-mad film producer is delaying his annual trip to the Cannes Film Festival to see his side’s League One Play-off Final clash.

Steve Abbott, 62, whose credits include A Fish Called Wanda and Brassed Off, will now fly out to Cannes on Sunday morning, the day after watching the Bantams face Millwall at Wembley.

He said there was never any doubt that he would not see Stuart McCall’s men try to book a place in the Championship. He even delayed his travel plans to South France to make sure he would not miss it and was originally due to fly out today.

It will be his 31st trip to the glitzy event, attended by a number of Hollywood stars, after going to his first in 1983.

He said: “I have put my trip off for a few days.

“I will not go on Sunday and be in Cannes for four days, rather than a week or so.

“There was never any doubt that I was not going to miss the game. People were inviting me to things in Cannes.

“I am not promoting a film this year, it is a chance to catch up with friends and do some networking. It is more about fun. I try to see as many films as I can there.

“I normally have all of my travel arrangements and hotel plans sorted for Cannes by February, but this time I waited until City had got to Wembley for the final.

“It is hardly a hardship for me to miss a few days of the festival to watch the match.

“I have been going to watch City since the 1959/60 season.”

But Mr Abbott, who is a board member of Screen Yorkshire, would not give a score prediction for the final due to his nerves ahead of the clash.

He added: “I am fearful rather than confident of winning the match. I would be really thrilled if we could pull it off.

“Hopefully we can play the lovely football we have played this season. But the ugliest win in the world would do for me.”

Meanwhile, it is set to be a bumper weekend for the club with a community day held at Valley Parade on Sunday.

The Bangla Bantams Community Day will take place at City’s ground between 10am and 7pm, entrance is £1 on the day.

A number of youth and adult teams are due to take to the field at the tournament.

Last year’s first event saw more than 500 people attending Valley Parade from as far afield as Wales and London.

The event included Bradford United Veterans beating 2-1 BFA UK Veterans (London) in the West Riding County FA Vets Cup 2016.
