FUNDRAISING champion Nazim Ali is getting set for his fifth mercy trip to help refugees struggling to survive on the Turkish-Syrian border.

Mr Ali from Manningham is due to leave for the border town of Reyhanli on May 15 which will be Ramadan eve and will be travelling with a West Yorkshire-based international humanitarian charity called SKT Welfare.

Over the last 12 years Mr Ali has raised almost £100,000 for humanitarian causes by running marathons and taking on mountain treks, funding previous aid trips to Reyhanli himself so 100 per cent of the donations he gets can all go to food parcels for the hungry.

“This is my fifth visit to the region for the fourth consecutive year, it is also the third consecutive annual Pre-Ramadan Aid Trip. The situation out there has not changed. Many families are living in partially built homes with no windows or doors, some are living in tents and are in need of food and water, commodities we take for granted.”

He is hoping people across Bradford will donate money to help him buy food parcels. For £50 one food parcel, made up of two parcels each weighing 20.5kgs, will provide enough food for a family of five people.

Mr Ali is planning to take a suitcase full of toys with him to give to Syrian orphans staying at SKT Welfare’s Springs of Hope Orphanage and Family Centre, also in Reyhanli. For the last two years he has run 10K Runs in Ramadan for the orphanage and raised more than £22,000 for it.

The 36-year-old careers advisor uses his holidays from work to carry out his charity work but also helps the needy at home, volunteering with Bradford’s Curry Circle Project serving warm food to the homeless.
