A DERELICT Victorian building in Bingley dubbed an eyesore has been put up for sale by its owners.

The Station Master’s House, in Wellington Road, has been put on the market by its owners, Whetley Mills Limited, of Thornton Road, Bradford, who paid £275,000 for the site in May 2006. The site, which has been derelict since the 1990s, has been put up for sale with Mark Brearley & Company and Gerwyn Bryan Property Solutions as joint selling agents.

There is no guide price for the site but offers are sought on an unconditional basis for the freehold interest by noon on June 9.

Stuart Illingworth, of Mark Brearley & Company, said a number of block viewings were planned at the site this week.

Cllr David Heseltine (Con, Bingley) said: “I would hope that the sustained pressures with questions I raised at Bradford’s full council, and regeneration and scrutiny meetings as well as Shipley Area Committee have assured the current owner that the blight on the area of the derelict building is unacceptable and it is now time to let the building go.

“I hope a sale is forthcoming and the new owners respect the building and its surrounding with the investment needed to rid the town of this eyesore.

“I am open to what it will be used for next.

Ros Dawson, Bingley Town Council chairman, said: “It is good news that there is progress on the site.

“Let us hope that it is sold off as soon as possible to get rid of this eyesore. Hopefully this will be the start of the end of the building being left.”

A planning application to demolish the outhouses to enable extensions to provide a retail unit, hot food takeaway and five flats were refused by Bradford Council in 2008.

A spokesman for Whetley Mills Limited said: “We really wanted to do something there.

“We were very keen to do something, we wanted to retain it in our portfolio. But eventually you have to say enough is enough and you move on.

“The site is fantastic and Bingley is a very nice area. We were not given planning permission for what we wanted to do.”

The site’s overgrown garden was cleared of litter in March this year after Bradford Council wrote to its owners to formally request the garden was cleared.

Whetley Mills Limited said its maintenance team cleaned up the site twice a year.
