A MAN was taken to hospital after being pulled out of the Leeds and Liverpool canal in Shipley this morning.
Fire crews from Shipley, Bingley, and Idle were called to the incident at Boatmans Wharf, near View Croft Road, just before 3.30am.
They found the man, said to be aged around 30, stood waist deep in the water.
A spokesman for the Shipley crew said: "It is unclear how the man ended up in the canal, he was under the influence of alcohol and couldn't remember how he got there.
"He had been shouting for help, and luckily a nearby resident heard his cries and alerted the emergency services.
"We handed him over to paramedics and he went to hospital for further checks. He didn't seem to have any injuries, but he was very, very cold."
The water rescue crew from Bingley led on pulling the man to safety using a throwline and an inflatable rescue sled.
