A FORMER Telegraph & Argus news reporter has died at the age of 89.
Harry Woodhead, pictured right, from Farnley, Leeds, worked at the T&A from 1950 until his retirement.
During his career Mr Woodhead covered the ‘Yorkshire Ripper’ Peter Sutcliffe case, interviewing a number of his victims who had managed to escape.
He also served a chairman of the National Union of Journalists in 1959, and honorary general treasurer during the 1970s, and was made an honorary member in 1975.
He was a life-long bachelor, and leaves behind no children or immediate family.
He died peacefully at St James’ Hospital on Tuesday, March 21.
A graveside burial is taking place at St Michael’s Churchyard in Farnley, at 10am on Thursday, April 6, followed by a reception at Farnley Community Centre.
