A MAN aged 38 has been spared an immediate jail sentence for twice attacking his wife after the judge heard that she did not want him to go to prison.

Muhammed Sadaqat carried out sustained assaults on Aleema Bibi at the family home in Hopbine Avenue, West Bowling, Bradford, leaving her bruised and grazed.

He pleaded guilty to causing Mrs Bibi actual bodily harm on July 29 last year and to assault by beating on August 13.

Bradford Crown Court heard that Mrs Bibi called the police after the second attack. She then showed the police photographs of the bruises inflicted earlier.

Sadaqat’s barrister, Abdul Shakoor, said he had no previous convictions. The Recorder of Bradford, Judge Roger Thomas QC, sentenced Sadaqat to eight months imprisonment, suspended for two years, with 120 hours of unpaid work, and made a ten-year restraining order banning Sadaqat from going into Hopbine Avenue.
