A BURGLAR who dropped and smashed the 50-inch television set he had carried out of a Bradford house at night has been jailed for 18 months.

Kamran Ahmed smashed his way into the property in Thornton Road at 9.30pm on February 9, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.

The householder, who was asleep upstairs, was woken by the sound of breaking glass and saw a figure leaving the living room with the TV.

Prosecutor Stephanie Hancock said the £649 television was dropped in the street by Ahmed and an accomplice and damaged beyond repair.

Ahmed, 28, of Girlington Road, Bradford, was arrested after leaving his blood at the house and fingerprints on the TV. He pleaded guilty to burglary after telling the police it wasn’t him.

Miss Hancock said Ahmed had previous convictions for robbery, house breaking and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

His barrister, Shufqat Khan, said his client was motivated to change for the sake of his daughter. He smoked cannabis daily and took cocaine at the weekend but was keen to stop and had complied well with the Drug Intervention Project.
