A GROUP of primary school pupils have been joined by a Bradford councillor on a week of litter picking around their local community.

The children, from Sandy Lane Primary School, carry out regular campaigns to tidy up rubbish in the village.

This week sees them taking part in their first cleaning drive of 2017.

Councillor Richard Dunbar (Labour, Thornton and Allerton) joined the children at Greenwood Park to pick up litter yesterday.

He said: “It was really good to be a part of the litter picking.

“The school council do a clean-up in the village on an annual basis, and I think it’s absolutely fantastic.

“It shows how thoughtful and caring the young people are in the village and the contribution they want to make to the upkeep of the village.

“We got some really positive comments from dogwalkers and people were really glad to see it and thanked the children.

“It’s not just about litter picking, it’s about wider education and keeping the area tidy and creating a sense of pride in your community.”
