CLECKHEATON Rotary Club is holding an open meeting for community groups and organisations to discuss ways people can get involved to make the most of the Tour de Yorkshire as it passes through the Spen Valley on Sunday, April 30.

The riders will race through Cleckheaton, Gomersal, Liversedge and Roberttown on the third and final stage of the event which starts in Bradford and ends in Sheffield.

Ideas to greet the riders and spectators include decorating the route with yellow bikes and flags, land art on fields and family activities.

The meeting to discuss ideas takes place at Gomersal Lodge Hotel in Spen Lane, Gomersal, on Monday, March 13, from 7pm.

Rotarian Joanne Catlow said: "Thousands of people will be watching the race either along the route or on television – and this is an exciting opportunity to bring the local community together to celebrate the event and showcase the area to a wide audience.

"We hope that as many people as possible will come along to the meeting to learn more about the Tour de Yorkshire and how they can get involved."
