PLANS to transform East Morton’s former public toilets into a community shop have been submitted to Bradford Council.

The volunteer team behind the project has applied for planning permission to make alterations to the stone building in Main Road.

They want to remove the internal wall, remove sanitary fittings, seal off drains, and provide a new wall, window and door.

The application has been submitted by East Morton Village Society.

The volunteers last year negotiated with Bradford Council to take over responsibility for the building, after the council closed the toilets to save money.

The team last year sold shares in the venture to fellow villagers to raise cash for the conversion work, and to buy shop fittings and stock for the shop.

Each share cost £10 and anyone over the age of 16 could purchase one or more of them.

The team also plan to apply for cash from grant bodies to help with the cost.
