OVER a dozen people, from as far as London, have objected to changes to a shop front on Ivegate.
Mohammed Afzaal has submitted a retrospective application to replace the Victorian shopfront of the former Arensberg’s Jewellers shop, which he described as “poor condition,” with a more modern frontage (pictured).
The original frontage was controversially taken out in December, and the new frontage is now fully installed.
The Council will decide on the application next month but 14 people have already objected.
One objection, by Richard Killip from Fyre Drive, London, says: “This civic vandalism in respect of the Aresnbergs’ shopfront is as damaging to this street as Sunbridge Wells is positive.
“This retrospective application should be refused and an order made for restitution of the former shopfront in full.”
