A MAN who found a school report from 91 years ago in the attic of a Bradford pub wants to find relatives of the pupil to give it to.

Darren Holland discovered the report card when he was helping to refurbish the Lane Ends pub at Five Lane Ends.

The report card is for the term ending in February 1926 and belongs to an Eileen Berry, who was in the girls’ section of Thornbury school.

Mr Holland is keen to track down members of Eileen’s family so they can have the document. “If someone comes forward and says that is my mum or family member, it would be good,” said Mr Holland, 44, of Wyke, Bradford. “It would be nice to reunite it with her family. It is a lovely little thing.”

The report card lists Eileen’s marks in various subjects, the number of times she was absent or late, and remarks about her conduct and progress.

Mr Holland, who worked in construction at the time he found the report in 2007, said he had put it in a box and forgotten about it. “A fair few years ago they wanted the pub refurbishing,” said Mr Holland, who now works in a school. “I had to pull insulation out from an attic. I was pulling it out and found a school report.

“I didn’t think anything of it at the time and it ended up in one of my boxes. Then I was looking for a mobile phone charger and found it again.

“It is from 1926. It has stuff on it like times absent and times late.

“It is a lovely little report. It has small handwriting in italics.

“I thought it would be nice for it to be given to a family member.”

The card says Eileen was in Class One of the girls’ department for the term ending February 1926. It contains a teacher’s initials and the signature of the head teacher.

Eileen was marked in six areas and received a total of 112 out of 120. She got ten out of ten for reading and ten out of ten for writing. In arithmetic, she received 46 out of 50, while for dictation and spelling she scored 19 out of 20. For composition, she got 18 out of 20, while she scored nine out of ten for recitation.

Eileen was absent 12 times and late once during that term. Her conduct and progress were considered ‘very good’.
