A woman whose car was pierced by railings after she lost control at a roundabout walked away unscathed.

The accident happened just after 6.30pm yesterday near the Generous Pioneer pub at Burley-in-Wharfedale.

The woman had been driving her Mazda in the direction of Ilkley when it spun onto railings and demolished a speed camera sign.

Watch manager Paul Holdsworth at Rawdon Fire Station, who was called to the incident, said: "She was incredibly lucky to have walked away from it like that.

"She lost control at the roundabout and the car just spun right on top of railing which went right through the back of the car. Paramedics checked her out but she was absolutely fine."
