Keighley takes the plunge this Sunday when Bradford Council brings its free Big Swim event to the town.

The sport and leisure service has held Big Swim events at various pools across the district since March and these have proved a huge success with more than 3,000 people taking a dip.

This next event at The Leisure Centre, Keighley starts at 7.30am with an early swim session where swimming instructors will be on hand to offer tips and advice.

At 9am there is a Wet n' Wild session for eight to 15-year-olds to enjoy the water pistols, sponges and even the opportunity to walk the plank.

From 11am to 1pm a giant inflatable session will see youngsters aged eight to 15 get to grips with toys, balls and floats, before the free event finishes with a family swim session from 1.15pm to 4pm.

The Big Swim initiative is part of the Council's b active' campaign and encourages people of all ages and abilities across the district to get in the swim and enjoy the benefits that swimming and other water-based activities can bring.

Head of sport and leisure at the Council Steve Warner said: "All of our Big Swim events have been a tremendous success and I'm sure everyone who visits Keighley on Sunday will have a great time.

"It will be a great day out for all the family with a host of different activities taking place in the pools for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy."
