A hearse drawn by two shire horses was used for the funeral today of a Bradford man who helped look after the animals at Bradford Industrial Museum.

Dennis Turner, who died aged 71 on June 12, had a lifelong connection with horses.

The cortege travelled from his home in Clayton to St John's CE Church in Clayton Lane where the funeral service took place.

The horses were arranged by staff at the museum in Eccleshill where Mr Turner helped to look after the shires for the past 12 years.

Mr Turner, a former water company worker, died a day before his 72nd birthday, which was also his and his wife Ellen's 45th wedding anniversary.

His son Philip Turner said: "He has always had connections with horses. In fact he loved horses as much as he loved his family! There is no other way he would like to go."

Mr Turner leaves Ellen, 65, Philip, 39, his daughter Julie, 44, and eight grandchildren.
